The Wycombe Grange

Introducing The Grange

The Wycombe and Chess Valley Grange Pupil Referral Unit provides a wide range of services on two sites to support young people by working in partnership with them, their parents, other schools and related professionals. The Referral Unit provides education for pupils who have been excluded from school, are in hospital or are out of school because they have a chronic illness, are pregnant or are young mothers. The units also provide support in schools for those pupils who risk exclusion because they find it difficult to cope in a school setting.
The Wycombe Grange is primarily for Key Stage 4 pupils and the Chess Valley Grange is primarily Key Stage 3 pupils.

What do we offer the children?

The Grange’s are child-centred environments where the pupils are placed in safe, secure settings according to age and particular need, and provided with a curriculum relevant to their academic ability and emotional need. Pupils build close working relationships with the team of adults who enable them to gain insight into their problems, learn skills and develop the resources they need to approach school, home and the community in a more positive and successful way. The curriculum is both broad and balanced, and is designed to cater for the academic, physical, social and moral needs of the child. It relates to relevant programmes of study, statements of attainment and assessment requirements, throughout the key stages of the National Curriculum. Expectations of achievement are high, and students are encouraged to sit nationally accredited examinations. The development of self-esteem through the acquisition of skills is central to the delivery of this curriculum.
